Apex Festival 10 – 11 May 2014
We Vees are again invited to the Apex Festival at Lydden Hill this year. For those who haven’t been this is a great weekend. There is a massive amount of track time on offer on this challenging track. The circuit and grounds will also be full of air-cooled kit of every shape and form. There is lots going on with 1000’s of people in attendance. We have always been made very welcome and it’s a fun family weekend.
Exact details are still to be finalised but the basic outline looks like free practice sessions on the Saturday and you can enter the sprint competition. On the Sunday there will be at least a qualifying session and two races. The price is circa £200. Last year we had well over two hours of track time for that and this year should be similar.
For an overview of the whole festival check out http://www.apexfestival.co.uk/save-the-date/index.html
As soon as more details and entry forms are available we’ll let you know, but get the date in your diary!

After a three course meal and plenty of wine, the long anticipated raffle was held presented by the affable Erle Minhinnick. Some great prizes were on offer, including several donated by Snap On Tools and Centurion Motorsport’s Pete Andrews. A year’s digital subscription to Autosport was won by Erle, but the pick of the bunch was a free race entry kindly donated by the 750MC which was won by AHS driver Dan Burton.
In the prizes, Graham Gant won the Masters Challenge, Ian Buxton won Highest Grid Mover and Chris Wilsher the Vee Centre Challenge. Each driver collected a cheque for £250, though sadly Chris could not attend due to flu. The Mechanics Cup was again sponsored by Tim Hill’s Maple Leaf Garage who donated £50 of Demon Tweeks vouchers, with Richard Coates (aka Bucko’s Mechanic!) taking the spoils.
Martin Farmer was voted Sporting Driver of the Year and Peter Belsey Vee Centre Member of the year.
The night continued with some novel entertainment in the form of Top Gear style “Star in a Reasonably Priced Car” competition using an X-Box. Early laps from Martin Farmer, Graham Gant and Chris Dack were as slow as they were shocking, mainly due to poor visibility of where the track was going. However, Farmer soon found form with a 1min 29 second lap to take unnofficial spoils, though Martin being sobre was noted to be the only driver to have a dry lap!
The Vee Centre and all present were very grateful to those who donated to the event including the 750MC, Autosport, Maple Leaf Garage, Snap On and Centurion Motorsport.
Applications to register for the 2014 750MC Formula Vee championship are now open. Be quick to get your registrations in and entries submitted to avoid being a reserve, as this year promises to have a bumper grid!
