As many of you know, sadly we lost Derek Willetts last year after his short battle with cancer. Derek had been in Vee seemingly for ever. He was a part of the Vee community as a driver, a mechanic and a team owner for decades. A fantastic trophy has been purchased by Mike Oldknow, Paul Taylor and the Vee Centre in commemoration of Derek. It was presented for the first time to the winner of the Vee Festival at the end of last season. The plan is to present it for different things each year. Derek won’t mind us saying that he wasn’t always at the front himself but a happy and dedicated participant in the thick of things. Therefore the award will not always be given for outright performance or race wins. Cadwell Park was Derek’s favourite circuit. Therefore this season the Willetts Trophy will be awarded this weekend in Class B to the driver (not currently in the championship top 6) with the best combined Class B race results over the 2 races of the weekend. It will be simple scoring of first in class B eligible drivers is 1 , 2nd 2, 3rd 3 etc. Clearly lowest score wins. In the event of a tie, the trophy goes to the winner with the best place finish (ie 1&3 beats 2&2). If things are still tied it will be decided on fastest race lap! Simple! We look forward to a great weekend and to remembering our mate Derek.

Apex Festival 10 – 11 May 2014
We Vees are again invited to the Apex Festival at Lydden Hill this year. For those who haven’t been this is a great weekend. There is a massive amount of track time on offer on this challenging track. The circuit and grounds will also be full of air-cooled kit of every shape and form. There is lots going on with 1000’s of people in attendance. We have always been made very welcome and it’s a fun family weekend.
Exact details are still to be finalised but the basic outline looks like free practice sessions on the Saturday and you can enter the sprint competition. On the Sunday there will be at least a qualifying session and two races. The price is circa £200. Last year we had well over two hours of track time for that and this year should be similar.
For an overview of the whole festival check out http://www.apexfestival.co.uk/save-the-date/index.html
As soon as more details and entry forms are available we’ll let you know, but get the date in your diary!
