Hello to everyone, I am Tony, a prospective new driver from North London. I am currently trying to source a car. There appears to be some good deals to be had in Ireland, and I am willing to travel etc. Would anyone be able to point out any major problems with eligigbility of Irish formula vee cars? I am looking at a Sheane in very good trim. I know that I would need to source a 1300 car. Any help would be appreciated. I have looked at the respective technical regs – just wondering if I have missed anything obvious. Any and all help very much appreciated. Best wishes to all.
They have different engines (which is the expensive bit anyway) and I pretty sure they also have different gearboxes and wheels/tyres to the UK cars.. Some older UK Sheanes and Leastones go back over to Ireland (where they were built) but not many come the other way..
Gear ratios are likely to be different. Definitely wheels/tyres and engine – they are 1.6 and I think dual port heads where as uk is 1.3 and single port. You might get away with just changing the heads, barrels and pistons although thats still half the engine.
Also I think the Irish run drum brakes at the front too whereas uk are discs.
