Not sure if this should be posted here or in technical so sorry if it’s in the wrong section. I’ve had a read through the getting started guide and the comment regarding not trying to build your own engine has left me a little puzzled. I’ve built a few race engines over the years both car and bike, two and four stroke air and liquid cooled and I’m wondering what qualities the beetle engine has or lacks that puts it beyond the abilities of engine builders other than the few listed in the guide? Surely “specialist knowledge” can be claimed about most engines? In the 80’s and early 90s I build a few Alfa boxer race engines and they we’re an engine cloaked in mystery and were viewed as an engine that only a few “specialists” could prepare for racing use but in reality they were an easy engine to work on. I’m very interested in building and racing a Vee but if I have to use a specialist engine builder then it kind of defeats the object to a certain extend.
Hopefully somebody will be able to explain why these engines require such rare skills lol.
